Padel may still sound unfamiliar to some Indonesians, but in some countries it has become a popular sport.
Padel is a racket sport that consists of a combination of tennis and squash. Unlike regular tennis, padel is played on a smaller court surrounded by a glass wall that is used as part of the game.
Origin and History of Padel
Enrique Corcuera first invented The sport of padel in Mexico in 1969. At first, padel was played only for personal entertainment in Corcuera's backyard. However, as time went by, the sport began to grow and attracted the interest of many people.
In 1974, padel was introduced to Spain through Enrique's friend and began to spread to other European countries. Today, padel has an international federation, the International Padel Federation (FIP), and tournaments are held in various countries.
Basic Padel Rules
In general, the rules of padel are similar to tennis, but there are some significant differences. Padel is played on a 10x20 meter court, smaller than a tennis court, and is played in doubles, either men's doubles, women's doubles, or mixed doubles. Each team consists of two players standing on opposite sides.
The game begins with a serve that must be made below the waist. The ball must hit the floor in the opponent's service area before bouncing off the wall. During the game, the ball may bounce off the walls in the field of play but must bounce once on the floor before being returned by the opponent. Points are awarded on the same system as tennis, i.e. 15, 30, 40, and games.

Equipment Used
Padel uses a different racket than tennis. Padel rackets have no strings and are made of composite material with holes in the surface to reduce wind resistance. It is also smaller and lighter, making it easier for players to control the ball. The ball used in padel is similar to a tennis ball, but with slightly lower pressure.
The shoes used in padel also play an important role. You should choose shoes that provide good grip on the court surface. In addition, comfortable and sweat-wicking sportswear is highly recommended to support fast and agile movements on the court.
In terms of the court, padel courts usually have a specially designed artificial turf floor material. Based on the International Padel Federation (IPF) regulations, the size of the padel court is 20 meters in length and 10 meters in width.
Benefits of Playing Padel
Like any other sport, paddling offers a wide range of health benefits. Playing padel regularly can improve cardiovascular fitness, train muscle strength, and improve eye-hand coordination.
Padel is also a social sport, as it is always played in pairs, thus improving social interaction and teamwork.
Padel is also a relatively easy sport to learn and play for people of different ages and fitness levels. The smaller court and slower pace of play compared to tennis make padel a more beginner-friendly sport.
Even children and the elderly can enjoy the game without having to worry about the high risk of injury.
