5 Facts of PON 2021

Every 4 years Indonesia holds a National Sports Festival, or commonly abbreviated as PON, which is attended by talented athletes from all provinces in Indonesia.   • Postponed Due to Covid-19 to 2021. This national competition was originally planned to take place in 2020, but due to the Covid-19 Pandemic situation, XX PON was postponed to 2021.
    The first time PON was held in 1948 in Solo. After independence, the spirit of fighting for the Indonesian people is still passionate, one of which is the spirit of sports. A National Sports Week was held to fulfill the spirit of this sport on September 9, 1948 in Solo. Opened by President Soekarno, PON I was centered at the Sriwedar Solo Stadium with more than 40,000 spectators every day.
  • First Time Held in Papua. In the voting for the candidate for the host of PON XX, Papua was successfully elected to host defeating Bali and Aceh. Carrying the tagline "Torang Bisa", PON XX will be held at the Lukas Enembe Stadium as the main location. There are 4 districts / cities that will host the biggest sports event in Indonesia, namely Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Merauke Regency and Mimika Regency.
  • Papua Bangkit Stadium was inaugurated as Lukas Enembe Stadium. Being the main location for PON XX, the Lukas Enembe Stadium was inaugurated on 24 October 2020 in Kampung Harapan, Sentani. Previously, this stadium was called the Papua Bangkit Stadium. With a capacity of 40,000 spectators in a single seat, this stadium is one of the largest capacity stadiums in the Pacific with an area of ​​13.7 hectares. Datra is trusted to fill this single seating audience with seats that meet the standards of international sports competitions.
  • There are 10 sports to be crossed out in the 2021 PON. Following the ability of Papua Province, the President recently issued a decision, namely reducing the number of sports. There are 10 sports that were crossed out, namely bicycle racing, table tennis, bridge, gateball, water skiing, bowling, dancing, petanque, woodball and golf.
