Artificial grass technology for sports fields is increasingly developing. Artificial or synthetic grass that became popular today was developed in the 1960s. The first synthetic grass used for sports fields was located at the Houston Astrodome Stadium, United States. This stadium is a stadium with a fully covered roof, so if you use natural field grass, the natural grass can quickly die from lack of sunlight. The following is a brief history of artificial grass (synthetic) for world sports fields:
- 1965: First used by the American baseball club at the Houston Astrodome Stadium
- 1969: Franklin Field Stadium, home to the NFL group Philadelphia Eagles, uses artificial grass as the foundation for their American Football field.
- Early 1970s: Artificial grass began to be used for field hockey.
- 1976: Artificial grass began to be used in Hockey at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
- 2001: FIFA launches a standard for artificial grass on football fields.
- 2005–06: UEFA allows artificial grass to be used in football competitions in Europe.
- 2007–08: The first international match in EURO 2008 was played on an artificial grass pitch at the Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow. This match was approved by FIFA and UEFA.
- 2013: FIFA supports artificial turf for international matches.
Artificial grass is a modern solution to finding an alternative to natural grass for sports fields. At first, many athletes were not suitable for this technology because artificial grass at that time still had many weaknesses such as being easy to cause injury, and making the ball's bounce difficult to predict.
However, in the modern era, technological developments are getting more advanced and now artificial grass has used non-abrasive grass material which is not rough on the skin and reduces the risk of injury. In addition, other special materials are created so that the ball's reflection is the same as the conditions when playing on natural grass fields.
Datra itself is able to provide artificial grass with guaranteed quality that has been internationally certified for various sports such as hockey, golf and football. With Tencate products that are internationally recognized, Datra is ready to answer the needs of sports fields that want to use artificial / synthetic grass. The advantages of artificial grass are:
