Description
Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium is more than just an arena, it is a living monument, a national landmark in the form of a stadium. Forged by President Soekarno’s ambition for the 1962 Asian Games, SUGBK stands as a symbol of independence and national pride. Its temugelang architecture, featuring a massive steel ring embracing the stands, was an engineering marvel of its time, designed to hold tens of thousands of voices in one unified echo.
The first major restoration since 1962 took place from 2016 to 2018 for the Asian Games. Amid complex interests, the leadership of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) demonstrated integrity and decisiveness. At SU01, Datra served as the largest subcontractor under Adhi Karya, handling multi-scope works, and later supported preparations across 12 other venues with thousands of workers.
For the grandstand reinforcement and seating system, the challenge was significant. The 1962-era structure risked weakening if the old wooden seats were dismantled without expertise. Datra introduced an innovative seat-base solution, allowing SUGBK to install modern flip-up seats without compromising the structural integrity, raising the standard of spectator comfort befitting a national icon.
This project holds deep meaning for us. The success at SUGBK elevated Datra’s reputation as Indonesia’s leading stadium specialist and became the foundation for the birth of our JAWARA values. Juang for endurance, Rancang for precision, Akhlak for integrity, Wadah and Akrab for collaboration, and Asa for shared hope.
