Revitalized Public Spaces: The Place for Community Program in Urban City

The existence of public spaces is a mandatory area when planning a city. Parks, monuments, open spaces have an important role as a gathering place for the community and the public. Being in open spaces and recreation areas has a positive effect on one's psychology and increases the closeness between communities, especially in busy urban areas. A good public space certainly has many components that must be fulfilled, such as comfort, security, access and capacity for social activities.

Making a public space good can be in the form of building from scratch and revitalizing existing public spaces. In Indonesia, the government is also making efforts to revitalize public spaces to become more alive again. We summarize it below

RPTRA KALIJODO

Formerly, the Kalijodo area was known as a location for nightlife and prostitution. However, as of 22 February 2017, this area has metamorphosed into Child Friendly Open Public Space (RPTRA) and Kalijodo Green Open Space (RTH). With facilities for children's playgrounds, skateparks, bike parks and culinary center, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has made this area a center for family tourism for residents of the Capital City.

KOTA KUNINGAN PARK

At the end of September 2020 the West Java Provincial Government announced the start of the revitalization of the Kuningan City Park area. Kuningan City Park was previously a recreation center for Kuningan residents and will be used as one of the three concentration spots for city center planning. One of the results of the revitalization is the construction of a Pedestrian Bridge (JPO) from TamKot Kuningan to the Syiarul Islam Mosque.

ISMAIL MARZUKI PARK

During its 50 years of existence, Taman Ismail Marzuki is the center of space for artistic and cultural expression in Jakarta. There are also two of the biggest theaters in Jakarta, namely Graha Bakti Budaya and Teater Jakart. In 2018, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government planned to revitalize Taman Ismail Marzuki by increasing its function to become a green open space, a center for cultural arts and education.
