If you take a trip to Singapore, one of the most interesting tourist attractions in the country is Changi Airport.
This airport is famous for a variety of interesting facilities ranging from shopping, luxury restaurants to the latest and newest is waterfalls. Yes, it is true that Changi Airport is now the only airport that has an indoor waterfall. This 40 meter high waterfall is also the highest indoor waterfall in the world.
Named JEWEL, the waterfall at Changi Airport is the pearl of the airport and is fitting to be called a world architectural marvel. This architectural wonder is certainly not cheap, the Singapore government spent around 1.3 billion dollars on the construction of this waterfall. The presence of this waterfall is the most interesting attraction when we visit Changi Airport. In addition, because of its presence, the room temperature around the waterfall is very cool and comfortable. To complement the waterfall, an artificial indoor forest is also made around it which adds to the green atmosphere.
Jewel Building Challenges
Designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie, one of the building's toughest challenges was building an elliptical 37-meter-high glass roof made up of 9000 individual glazes that also support the weight of the waterfall channel itself. For almost 5 years of construction, JEWEL finally opened in April 2019 and immediately attracted the world's attention. Imagine the number of visitors at Changi increased from 200,000 to 300,000 / day. No wonder this airport has become the pride of the people of Singapore.
What do you think? Are airports or open spaces in Indonesia suitable to be made like this?
