Volleyball, as one of the most popular sports worldwide, has specific standards for its facilities and infrastructure. These standards are set by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) to ensure that matches are conducted smoothly and fairly. In Indonesia, the sport is specifically overseen by the Indonesian Volleyball Association, abbreviated as PBVSI.
If you are planning to build a volleyball court, it is beneficial to understand these standards first. This way, you can provide the best facilities for athletes and the community. Here are the details of the standards for volleyball facilities and infrastructure.
Playing Court
The volleyball court has specific dimensions of 9 meters by 18 meters. The centerline divides the court into two equal parts, and the attack line for back-row players is 3 meters from the centerline. The sidelines, which define the outer boundary of the playing area, are 5 meters wide.
Ball
The volleyball used in official matches must meet certain criteria. According to FIVB regulations, the ball must be spherical with a circumference of 65 to 67 cm. It is made of genuine or synthetic leather and has an inner bladder made of rubber or similar material. The weight of a volleyball ranges from 260 to 280 grams. The internal air pressure must also be precise according to standards.
Posts and Net
The volleyball post & net has a length of 9.5 to 10 meters and a width of 1 meter. The height of the net varies between men's and women's categories, being 2.43 meters for men and 2.24 meters for women. The net must be installed in such a way that it remains perpendicular and stable throughout the match.
Service Area and Libero
The service area is the part of the court where players perform their serves to start the game. This area is located outside the backline and has the same width as the court. Additionally, in official matches, there is a position called the libero, which has a special role in defense. The libero wears a different uniform from other players to distinguish their role on the court.
Lighting and Flooring
The quality of lighting in a volleyball court is very important. Lighting must be even and bright enough to ensure all areas of the court are clearly visible. The court flooring is usually a type of multifunction floor made of wood or synthetic materials that provide good traction and reduce the risk of injury for players.
The standards for volleyball facilities and infrastructure set by FIVB ensure that every match can be conducted smoothly and safely. With courts of the right size, balls with precise specifications, sturdy nets, and adequate lighting and flooring, volleyball can be enjoyed to the fullest by players and spectators. The implementation of these standards also supports the creation of fair and high-quality matches.
