Types of Indoor Running Tracks (Indoor)

For the world of athletic competition, indoor athletics is a relatively new thing. Although athletic competitions in the indoor hall have been held since 1863 in London, to be precise at Hall Cremorne Pleasure Gardens. However, the IAAF only officially held indoor athletics competitions in 1985 in Paris. Indoor athletics can be classified into two main categories:

Indoor Track with Flat Surface
The synthetic surface of the track is located directly on the floor of the structure, which can be made of asphalt or concrete. A flat curve without any slope does not compensate for the centrifugal force generated by the athlete as it passes through the curve, and, for this reason, is not suitable for athletic competition or professional training. Instead, these tracks are recommended for recreational use or amateur training purposes.

Indoor Tracks with Sloping Surface
The synthetic surface of the track rests on a raised structure, so the slope of the curve can balance the centrifugal forces generated by the athletes. The indoor track surface has a slope of about 10-15 degrees. Winding tracks are mandatory for facilities used to host athletic competitions or for professional training.

Then, how is the application of the sloping surface track on the indoor track? Come on, check below:

1. Moving Track On a moving track, the track surface is fixed to a steel structure with plywood panels. This type of track can be directly installed and also moved to various sports arenas that have sufficient land. Structures designed in this way are easier to assemble, disassemble and store. This ease of disassembly can be an alternative for a multipurpose sports room, whose area is used other than for sports.

2. Portable Track There are two types of Portable Tracks: those that can be completely disassembled or only partially disassembled. What distinguishes this track from the moving track is that this portable structure is intended for a full running track and can be adapted to the size of the indoor arena. In practice, although this track structure can be dismantled, it is not intended to move around the arena. This track structure is intended for long term use, and is recommended for facilities dedicated exclusively to athletics, which are also used to host other types of activities or sports.

3. Permanent Tracks Made of Concrete or Asphalt
This type of track is also suitable for competition. However, as the name suggests, when installed, this facility cannot be dismantled again, so the function of the building is limited. This type of track is widely used in stadiums that are indeed functioned as professional running tracks.
