Ideal Sightline in the Auditorium

Visibility in the auditorium or theater greatly affects the comfort of the audience. This convenience also varies for each type of event that takes place:
- At a dance stage, the audience will focus more on the dancer's feet, therefore visibility must ensure that the feet are not blocked by obstacles such as chairs or the stage.
- At a lecture or religious event, the audience will focus on half of the speaker's body, especially the head to chest area, so that in order to maintain the audience's focus, the visibility to this area should not be obstructed by anything.
- For theatrical events or film screenings and music concerts, the audience's focus is completely on the entire stage or screen, thus requiring a wide viewing distance and being able to reach all details on the stage or screen.
In order to maintain a comfortable and focused visibility, there are 3 steps that can be taken, namely changing the floor height, changing the height of the chair by choosing a chair product that is more optimal in size, or adjusting the configuration of the room.
Auditorium/Theater Room Configuration
The configuration of the room is determined based on the room requirements and the expected amount of capacity. The right room configuration can also increase the safety and comfort of visibility and sightline.
Auditorium/theater rooms that tend to be large have challenges in determining the configuration of the room to meet audience satisfaction from every angle. For this type of room, experts recommend using a radius system or almost a semicircle as the configuration of the room and seating. This system is the most optimal system to maximize visibility, because all audience members still get a view of the stage. With the optimal combination of seat height and floor, this semi-circular room can offer comfort for the audience, whether they are sitting in the front, middle and back so that they can keep their eyes on the stage.

One of the main mistakes when designing a semi-circular room is that the curvature of one row and another is the same, but this can make the distance between the seats and rows narrower at the back so that it takes up space and makes some viewers uncomfortable. The correct pattern is like the picture on the right, where the rear seat has the widest curvature and the more forward the arch forms a cone. This design keeps the seat distance between rows stable and maintains seating comfort and visibility.
