Badminton History

Badminton or badminton is a game that has been around for thousands of years, but began to become a popular sport in the 19th century in the superpower, England. Using Battledore and Shuttlecock, this sport is favored by various circles to aristocrats. The name of this sport was adapted from the name Badminton House or Badminton House owned by the British aristocrat Duke of Beaufort.

In 1899, the first international badminton tournament, All England was held, followed by the formation of the International Badminton Federation (IBF) in 1934, which is now known as the BWF. Until the late 40s, the competitions and members of this federation were dominated by European countries.

Asian countries also began to participate in this sport, and Tan Joe Hok won the All England Men's Single in 1959. Indonesia's name began to become household namein this sport with Rudy Hartono's victory for 7 consecutive years in the 70s at All England Men's Single. Until now, Indonesia has many sports heroes who made history in Badminton such as Liem Swie King, Susi Susanti, Taufik Hidayat, and other great athletes.
